![]() ![]() Some shade manufacturers offer color choices, but all say that black is most effective in blocking UV rays from entering your coach. Which Color Fabric Is Most Effective For RV Windshield Sun Screens? All promise to block at least 90% of the heat and UV rays. There are several manufacturers of RV Sun Control Shades, but most are made of a similar PVC coated fabric. Differences in RV Window Sun Shades Fabric Blocking our view defeats the purpose of traveling in an RV!Įxterior sun control shades keep the heat off of the outside of the windshield, which helps reduce heat inside. The privacy shades do block more of the heat, but then we can’t see outside. The day shades are designed to block some of the heat, but the dashboard gets very warm so that tells me it’s not blocking that much. We have day shades and night privacy shades on our RV. Our RV Already Has Interior Shades- Don’t They Block Heat? Here’s what we learned and how we chose our RV windshield sunscreen. We decided that exterior window sunscreens would work better for our Class A RV. If you drive your RV at night, a really dark tint might reduce your visibility. The other thing to consider about window tinting is that unless it’s really dark tint it doesn’t offer much privacy for people looking in. One thing to consider if you decide on RV window tinting is to choose a good quality tint, which can be very expensive. ![]() This keeps your windows from heating up and transferring the heat inside your RV. Tinting helps but an exterior sunscreen blocks the sun from hitting the glass. ![]() RV window tint can help to reduce heat in your RV, but once the glass on our Class A windshield heated up the heat transferred inside. RV Window Tint or RV Windshield Sunscreen- What’s Best? Since we can’t always get a north/south facing site when we travel in our Class A RV, we decided to research the best options for keeping our coach cold in the summer. The sun shining into your RVs large windshield heats up the interior really fast and makes it hard for your RV air conditioners to keep you cool. If you want to reduce temperatures in your RV during the summertime, park it facing north or south. I believe I had a couple clips on the top of that screen to hold it in place, if I were to try it again, I might put some clips on the sides. We did a day of driving with it and decided to take it off. The rear window sunscreen is dark enough that you basically can't see through it. No clips are needed on any of these four. I guess I might pop one of the window screens on if I had a passenger sitting in the sun (at sunrise or sunset?). I've been using the roof screens but not the windows.they're pretty dark to see through. The second-row roof and second-row window pieces just fit into place, and friction against the window frames holds them in place well. There isn't a cutout for the camera, as we'd seen in some renderings, but with careful positioning you can stay clear. Just make sure you have it far back enough to clear the interior cabin camera on the rear view mirror enclosure. That's fine, although you'll lose a fraction of an inch of headroom with this screen up. Due to the shape of the Model X window (plus the wiring channel to the rear view mirror enclosure), the sunscreen will not be flush against the glass. You'll probably want to put one or two clips on each side (left and right) to keep it in place, otherwise moving the sunvisors will knock the screen out of place (and probably onto your head). The front roof screen is (IMHO) the most useful, it seems to do a great job of blocking the heat and light coming in through the top of the windshield. Also, you'll probably want to take note of how they're folded so you can put them back (basically hold them on opposite ends along the long dimension, and twist). There are some clips to help hold them in place.įirst thing.be very careful when opening the bag and taking the sunscreens out! They are folded up for storage and they will unfold with some force. Each has a stiff but flexible metal frame.if you have ever handled photography screens this will feel pretty familiar to you. Unlike Heatshields, these are thick mesh, so they're not completely opaque. Longer version: The sunscreens come (only) as a set, which includes the front roof (1 piece), second-row roof (2 pieces), second-row windows (2 pieces), and rear window (1 piece). TLDR: I've had the Tesmanian sunscreens for a little while now, and they're exactly what I wanted. ![]()
